Hypnotherapy explained Hypnosis can be likened to meditation or a deep relaxation bringing about heightened awareness in a relaxed state. When we relax we let go of tension and resistance and because of this we can see our lives in perspective, see solutions and connect with our inner resources and creativity. Our sub-conscious mind has accepted many statements about ourselves and our lives acting like a computer software programme or pattern matching library. These statements can create many problems, for example; "I am a failure", or "I am afraid of crowds", or I get migraine when I am stressed". Negative statements or beliefs are programmed in to be re-inforced over and over again.
Try this exercise: Imagine sitting down and slicing a lemon into thick segments. You then put a segment into your mouth and bite down. As you bite, the juice fills your mouth You probably felt the saliva in your mouth as you imagined this - just as if it was actually happening. This is your body's way of telling you that it believes what you are thinking!
Our understanding of how the brain works is increasing all the time. We know the difference between the parts of the brain that we use to be in conscious control and in a positive state and what happens when we slip into subconscious patterns of behaviour. By understanding the power of our thoughts in a scientific and physiological way and the deeply restorative and creative state of relaxation we can see why hypnotherapy helps with and treats so many conditions including: Smoking and Addictions - Weight Loss / Control - Confidence - Self Image -Fears and Phobias -Trauma - Anxiety and Depression - Insomnia - Panic Attacks - Goal Achievement - Motivation .
