Frequently Asked Questions
I am afraid of losing control - that I am hypnotised to do something I don't want to
Don't worry, this is not the hypnotism you may have seen on stage for our entertainment. Hypnotherapy is a normal relaxed state like daydreaming where you have the opportunity to imagine what you want. As your hypnotherapist I am trained to promote your health, well being, success and happiness and you will only take on board the suggestions that are absolutely right for you As a professional hypnotherapist I am obliged to work to a high standard that is governed by a code of ethics and conduct. (National Council for Hypnotherapy). Also, as with all professionals I have to attend regular supervision.
What if I can't be hypnotised?
Hypnosis is a deep relaxation and there are different levels that can be experienced. A light relaxation is sufficient for much of the therapeutic treatment. When you consider that daydreaming is an hypnotic state and you think about the times that you imagine going on holiday for instance, you will realise that we can all be 'hypnotised' and that a hypnotherapist is using that natural state to help you achieve what you want.
Will I be regressed and asked to experience and talk about painful episodes of my life?
Absolutely not! Solution Focused Hypnotherapy works on the premise that what you choose to focus on amplifies and expands. We certainly don't want to amplify pain and suffering! That is why treatment is so enjoyable - we work on what you want and what needs to change in order for you to get there.
